About Justine Rhodes, LMHC

After obtaining my master's degree from Clemson University in 1996, I moved to St. Petersburg and began practicing as a Florida registered mental health therapist. I became a Florida licensed mental health counselor and also a Florida qualified supervisor—meaning that I have been approved by the state to oversee the work of other master's level therapists as they attempt to achieve their Florida licensure. In that capacity, I spent several years leading a team of therapists at a community mental health center. I now dedicate all of my time to my own private practice, NorthEast Counseling. In all, I have been treating children, adolescents, adults, couples and families in the St. Petersburg area for over 25 years. For more information on Florida's licensure requirements, please see the link on the resources page. For more information about me and my qualifications, please see the qualifications page.

What Is Solution-Focused Therapy?

Solution-focused therapy is a type of talking therapy that focuses on what clients want to achieve through therapy rather than on the problem(s) that motivated them to seek counseling. The approach does not focus on the past but instead focuses on the present and future. The therapist/counselor invites the client to envision their preferred future, and then the therapist and client start working towards it in incremental steps. To support this, the therapist utilizes the individual client’s strengths and resources and helps the client find exceptions to the problem. Solution-focused therapists believe that, if a person has the capacity to describe something as a problem, that person also has the capacity to determine what would be better in his/her everyday life and has the resources needed to make it happen. What it means to you: Solution-focused therapy is very much a results-oriented approach. My focus is to assist you in reaching your goals in as short a time as possible. While other approaches may require you to spend several hours describing the reasons why you are seeking therapy, the solution-focused method concentrates on your current condition and the resources available to make your life what you want it to be. The approach generally requires fewer visits, lower costs, and increased results. In short, it is a results-oriented approach.

What Are the Costs?

I have been approved as a network provider for a variety of health insurance carriers. If you wish to use your insurance, please call me directly to discuss the options, since this website may not keep up with all of the insurance changes. I also provide services under Employee Assistance Programs (EAP's), which may entitle you to a limited number of sessions at no charge. In addition, many providers recognize the unique relationship clients have with their therapists and thus will make exceptions based upon your desire to work with a particular provider even if the approval process is not yet complete. In any event, if you wish to use insurance, please contact me so that we may discuss your options and my current status with the various Florida providers.

I also understand that many clients wish to utilize the self-pay option for privacy purposes or for a variety of other reasons. My self-pay rate is $125 per hour. Again, if you have questions as to the cost of therapy, or if you would like to discuss payment options, please feel free to call me.

In any event, please note that I, unfortunately, cannot accept credit/debit cards at this time. All payments/co-payments must be by cash or check and must be made at the time of service. Thank you for your understanding.
